Pomoćni glagol “to do” – Auxiliary Verb “to do”

By | 04/05/2014

Pomoćni glagoli služe za tvorbu složenih glagolskih vremena (perfekta, futura itd.)

Pomoćni glagoli su:

be, have, do, shall, will

Glavni oblici glagola do jesu:

do did done

Do kao pomoćni glagol

– S pomoćnim glagolom do tvori se upitni i odrični oblik prezenta i preterita glagola punog značenja.

Does he drive a car? (vozi li on auto)
You do not understand me. (vi me ne razumijete)
They did not arrive in time. (nisu stigli na vrijeme)

– U imperativu, prezentu i preteritu upotrebljava se pomoćni glagol do i u potvrdnim rečenicama ako želimo istaknuti glagol. Takvo do se zove emfatično do (Emphatic do).

Do sit down! (ta sjedi!)
I do like this cakes. (zaista volim ove kolače)

Do se često upotrebljava da bi se izbjeglo ponavljanje glavnog glagola, i to:

-u kratkim odgovorima:
Do you read? -Yes, I do. (čitate li, čitam)

-uz so, iza kojeg slijedi pomoćni glagol, a onda subjekt.
He swims well, and so does his sister. (on dobro pliva, a isto tako i njegova sestra)

-u dodatnom pitanju:
You know what I mean, don’t you? (znate na šta mislim, zar ne)

Do kao glagol punog značenja

Do se upotrebljava u značenju činiti, raditi. Npr:

They did their job very well. (oni su vrlo dobro obavili svoj posao)
He did not do what he had promised. (nije učinio što je obećao)
When does she do the room? (kada ona sprema sobu)
